Beta -Carotene is a strongly colored red-orange pigment abundant in plants and fruits. It is an organic compound and chemically is classified as a hydrocarbon and specifically as a terpenoid (isoprenoid), reflecting its derivation from isoprene units. Beta-carotene is a provitamin of vitamin A, meaning it is transformed to active vitamin A in the body. Vitamin A, also known as retinol and retinal, plays a key role in health. Beta-carotene 30% is a red-brown liquid. Used as a coloring agent in fat based systems, primarily margarines and spreads. It is also used in dietary supplement applications as a Vitamin A source and/or for its antioxidant properties including softgel capsules. |
